A new species just under the skin of everyday people

Carl Stanfeuss was born with Twilight Eyes, a color his grandmother said foretold of psychic abilities. After murdering his uncle Denton at the tender age of seventeen, Carl flees Oregon, shedding his name to become Slim MacKenzie, and join up with the Sombra Brothers Carnival. Of course, it wasn't bad that he murdered his uncle ... because his uncle was one of Them. The goblins.

From his psychic abilities, Slim can see the piggish, doggish faces of the goblins hiding underneath the fa�ade of normal humans. They live off the pain and suffering of others, gathering with glee at fires, accidents, shootings, and disasters.

Once with Sombra Brothers, Slim goes to work for concessionaire Rya Raines running the High-Striker, and falls in love with the icy beauty. Among the others he meets is enigmatic freak Joel Tuck (the most compelling character in the book), and after discovering both Joel and Rya can see the "goblins" also, they set a plan in motion to infiltrate one of the horrid monster's nests in the town of Yontsdown. Unsure if they can actually rid the world of the beasts, Slim and Rya plan to extract vengeance from them for the death of Jelly Jordan, one of their friends.

The book has an explosive culmination that won't leave you disappointed. The "goblins" are all too easy to imagine from Koontz's descriptions, and the depictions of carnival life well fleshed out without being overdone. Joel Tuck is my favorite character, Koontz describing the freak's appearance as "God having a bad day" or, worse, "fun with molding flesh".

Koontz doesn't usually write in first person, which makes this a unique novel among all the others he's done. Its also an earlier novel of his, written before he developed a 'Stephen King' predilection for 'verbal diarrhea', overwriting his stories to the point where prose overcame the actual story. 'Twilight Eyes' is an adventuresome novel with a unique storyline and well written enough to keep you up all night long. I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

It captured my imagination and make me wonder about my own reality, could we all be living a lie? The romance was a notch up from what I am used to with Koontz. I love this ending!

A masterwork rescued still again....

Lucretius has survived mediocre translation--Martin Ferguson Smith's prose version was Greenblatt's first reading, William Ellery Leonard's in pentameter verse was mine--as well as translation by famous hands: Moliere (now lost), John Evelyn, John Dryden. But we are blessed to have David Slavitt's sonorous and inspired new hexameter version: DE RERUM NATURA: THE NATURE OF THINGS, done by University of California in 2008. "The difference, I hope, is that between talking and singing," Slavitt says, and his version sings with a restrained richness of idiom and rhythm. It allows us to read Lucretius's work not as a versified science lesson but as a true poem, and in his translation we hear, once again, poet meeting poet, and a masterwork rescued still again from the forgetting centuries.

Great book

I didn't finish reading it but this book is the best translation for Lucretius's work. It does a great job of capturing the poetry of Lucretius with its format. Other books use a prose format, which make them difficult to read. David Slavitt's translation here, though, is very easy and enjoyable to read. Anyone casually interested in The Nature of Things should read this book, not any other boring translation.

Good for directors of the play....

If you haven't used a first folio to get to the source of Shakespeare's directorial notes, you should get familiar with how he hid notes to the actors inside his text. You can only tell this by looking at the first folio.

This isn’t just a simple story, it’s a simply beautiful love story……

I wasn’t sure going into this one, not because of the m�nage aspect of it, cause I do love a good m�nage. My hesitation was due to the fact that historical and alternate universe are not something that I would pick up on my own. But because it was written by K.C. Wells, that and there were CockyBoys on the cover, I knew it would be one that I would have to read.

Where to even begin…Ok so I do love a good m�nage, but it needs to be written in a way that all three MCs have equal say in the relationship. No, I don’t mind when two of the three have been together for years prior to adding the third. No, I don’t mind when they all meet at the same time and enter into a threesome because they all agreed to it. What I have issues with is when one of the main players has hesitation to being part of the threesome. I don’t like to see my characters hurt in any way.

Well, let me tell you, K.C. Wells knows how to write a story between three men. I loved the easy acceptance that both sets of parents had toward their children loving the members of the same sex. That right there is a big plus in my book. Yet there were still things that couldn’t be accepted for certain kings. Those things that seem to stand in the way for true happiness for our three MCs.

Oh, I fell in love with Tanish and Feyar from the first few sentences, so much so I thought I would resent Prince Sorren for intruding into their perfect little bubble. Yet when we are introduced to Sorren and we get to know him I realized there was no way I could NOT love him as much as I loved the other two. And by this point you are begging, pleading for the three of them to find a happy ever after.

But there are bumps and heartbreaks that they must go through to get that happy. Things that will leave you wanting to scream, things that will leave you just downright angry, things that will leave you in tears. You feel the pull the three of them have to one another. And it’s a pull that makes you cheer for them. These three are characters that will grab you from the beginning and won’t let you go till the very end.

This is one of the first fantasies that I have read and, like I mentioned before, it is not something I would pick up on my own. That said, while reading this I was transformed into an alternate reality. I was taken to their world, I escaped the here and now, and was enveloped into Sorren, Tanish and Feyar’s world. It totally changed the way I see fantasy books.

Look here is the thing, this book left me feeling content, and happy. It is one that I stayed up late to read, and got up early so I could sneak in a few chapters. One that had me so hooked, I thought about pulling out my phone during church so I could read JUST.A.LITTLE.MORE. It is truly a beautiful story, one that I highly recommend. But I should not be surprised, K.C. Wells is a brilliant story teller who transforms pages into something that takes you to a different place, a place to get lost in, a place where you become a part of these characters lives.

Simply stunning.

Never wanted this book to end

K.C. Wells is one of my very favorite authors and with each subsequent book she writes, I love her even more. Her characters are wonderful in every way. Although I loved all three MCs in this book, I truly wanted to wrap Sorran up and keep him with me forever. There wasn't anything about this book that I didn't love. I never wanted to leave Teruna and I hope Ms. Wells will give us a chance to visit there again!

The setting is a fantasy world similar to middle earth or the mystical ancient world. Teruna is the center of three kingdoms. Kandor borders Teruna on the west, with mountains that separate Kandor and Teruna, while Vancor is on the east borders of Teruna.

The well written plot features the elements of anguish, jealousy, secrecy and romantic interludes. The kingdom of Kandor is the enemy of Teruna. Rumors of Kandor’s intent to attack Teruna motivate the Teruna king to form an alliance with Vancor. The combined kingdoms of Teruna and Vancor would then be able to defeat Kandor. To accomplish the treaty, the kings decided that their sons should be united in marriage.

The main characters are Prince Tanish of Teruna, Feyar, Tanish’s lover and Prince Sorran of Vancor.

Tanish suffers from guilt because he has loved Feyar for years, but the laws of the kingdom forbid Tanish or anyone from acknowledging Feyar in public. Tanish is forced to keep his love a secret.

As required by Teruna law, Feyar was forcibly enlisted into being a sex tutor for the aristocracy. However Feyar was fortunate enough to be chosen as Tanish’s exclusive bed partner. Feyar regretted the lost of contact with his family, but could not be repentant for the love he shared with Tanish.

Sorran is extremely perceptive; he seeks equality for all the citizens in the realm. When Sorran discovers the love that already exists between Tanish and Feyar, Sorran is heartbroken. Nevertheless, Sorran has a natural magnetism that neither Feyar nor Tanish can resist.

A Bond of Three is an outstanding enjoyable saga. The engaging characters draws the readers into their world by demonstrating the realistic emotional pitfalls Tanish, Feyar and Sorran had to endure before their connection of love was firmly established. The display of compassion in each man is heartwarming; the intimacy scenes are superb.
