Great Construction Logistics book that has no competition.

Books like this likely don't get reviewed which is too bad. I thought it was well written and extremely helpful to my work. Getting people to understand and buy into construction logistics is very difficult. This book helped to explain some of the concepts around the advantageous consolidated logistics.

Great book. I am a physician (and married fr 40 years), and I learned quite a bit. The book is state of the science of human love: romance, attachment and sex - yes all three (I neve knew there were three). It is based on biology, evolution, anthropology. It is very easy reading.

Turns out: The 'seven year itch' is four years long; Woman pursue and enjoy sex, and have more intense orgasms than men; serial monogamy is the normal state of things, amongst humans and most species; Love, and sex are adapted to promote attachment (to promote successful reproduction), so much so in humans, that we have evolved the largest (in relative and absolute measurements) and most intensely inervated sex organs of any species; Women do not have a defined estrous - they are always in heat. There is great information on how we go about choosing a mate, the period of infatuation (1-3 years), adultery (who, why, when, etc.), and many more well researched topics of interest. Based on all this, and much more, Dr. Fisher gives great advise and counsel on maintaining intense love in our relationships. The information is state of the art and up to date.

I cannot emphasize what a great resource is this book.

An anthropological guide to understanding why we do what we do

The author is a biological anthropologist and, sure enough, this book is about the anthropological background of our biology, at least the sex and romance part of it. I highly recommend it.

As a senior who used to be on an Internet dating site (Match.com), I had viewed several of the author’s Ted talks. These were intriguing enough to take a stab at this book in hardcover. To my delight, this book does not repeat the subject matter of her talks. Yes, some aspects of what she references in her talks make an appearance here and there but this work has a different emphasis. The majority of the book is a description of the anthropological history of what the subtitle says—mating, marriage, and why we stray. It is well written, moves at a pleasantly rapid pace, and the anecdotes are well chosen and properly illustrative.

The payoff from these lessons and the reader’s education comes in the final chapter. It is not just a home run, it is a grand slam! Only now, while reading her observations, conclusions, and predictions, the reader understands the foundation and background of each. The result is a credibility missing in a Ted talk or a YouTube video.

A delightful thing about Ms. Fisher is that she never loses sight of the sparkle and magic of romantic love. While the knowledge she communicates in this volume helps the reader to understand why men and women act as they do (including why we stray, if we do), she always focuses on the future, on the next adventure as we seek a new romantic partner. In my view, her take on internet dating sites is exactly accurate. “Internet dating services are not dating services; they are introducing services.” (p. 308) Amen to that. What we do, how we act, where things go after the introduction—that’s still up to us.

It is a rare book that causes a reader to feel, on completion, that he or she better understands human nature. This book merits that praise.

The Puppy and the Prince

Ok. This tale is cute & adorable. This story is cute in so many different ways, not the least of which being the adorable puppy who is a character all on his own. The human characters weren’t half bad either. Xander was priceless, walking a fine line between authoritative and attentive, secretive and mysterious. Kate’s frank openness drew me in in the complete opposite manner. I enjoy how they got to know each other over such a cute puppy. The fairy tale romance surrounding Xander & Kate just keeps growing. I love how they fit together so perfectly as individuals despite the differences in their lives. I love the mix of heat & sweetness that Steele works into this novel.

At the same time, the uniqueness of the entire tale that kept me intrigued. The intrigue and mystery surrounding parts of the tale took me for a loop, adding a plot twist that I loved. I’ll admit, there was one moment where I turned to my dog and was like: ‘Wait! What? That’s not what’s supposed to happen!’ I was so convinced I had it all figured out and our resident piece of puppy cuteness would fix everything for these characters. The plot twists were spot on for a little adventure in this steamy story.

This was an intricately plotted, well written tale and I’d definitely recommend it to others.

I was hooked from page one and only put it down when I had to.

First, I do not give spoilers. I normally don't read books that are of this nature, however, this one included a puppy as one of the main characters. I have a service dog, Shadow. So I decided to give it a chance. I'm probably going soft as I get older. Lol
Anyway, I absolutely loved the first book. So I got the set. I loved the excitement, the intriguing twists of the plot. Of course I fell in love with the puppy in the beginning. The author was very descriptive and knowledgeable about dogs, and Used great wording. I loved it. I can only hope she writes more in this series.

These stories not only contain hot romance, but a cute and cuddly puppy that will make you laugh. Can you imagine a handsome prince falling in love with you so much, he is willing to give up his thrown for you. A great series in a set so you don't have to wait to read the next book. Loved this series.

Challenging, thought provoking... and an enjoyable read!

MANY books today cover the topic of responsible media consumption. But few do it with the insight and depth of Communicating for Life. Schultze takes the reader beyond consumption of media to look at what it truly means to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ in our technology rich world. Not only was I prodded to transform the ways I use media in my life, but I was encouraged to become a whole member of the human community. Schultze weaves these two concepts of community and media into a beautiful tapestry that can hint to us what true peace, true justice, and true community ought to look like. This is a must read for all who seek to live as authentic followers of Jesus.

Thought provoking

COMMUNICATING FOR LIFE: CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP IN COMMUNITY AND MEDIA provides a unique spin on stewardship. Schultz gives a thought provoking perspective on communication by utilizing a lens of God's creation of man and man's resultant reflection of God. He enlarges the understanding of communication theory beyond the basic communication models by enriching the process of communication with the aesthetic of the miracle of reaching the understanding of another human being. The book is excellent!

Extremely Profound Book

Dr. Quentin Schultze is an effective professor, great writer and genuinely nice person.

As a communication teacher and person of faith, I am always looking for others of like mind. I found this book very challenging and useful in the college courses I teach. I quote from it all the time, as each sentence is like a goldmine of truth.

I highly recommend this book for those interested in thinking, discovering more about God, and considering the very profound nature of communication. God is a communicator. So are we; its one of the ways we're created in His image.

About the Author

Robert van Gulik (1910–67) was a Dutch diplomat and an authority on Chinese history and culture. His many works include sixteen Judge Dee mysteries, a study of the gibbon in China, and two books on the Chinese lute.

Judge Dee Short Stories

Dutch diplomat Robert van Gulik wrote the Judge Dee mysteries (in English!) to introduce the West to the Chinese version of the mystery story, which arose centuries before the English detective story. Judge Dee is an actual historical person, a magistrate of the seventh century during the T'ang dynasty, who was renown in China for his ability to solve crimes. In Judge Dee at Work, van Gulik presents us with eight short stories each of a single case (the novels, in the Chinese tradition, involve 3 intertwined cases) that take place throughout the judge's long career (magistrates were usually moved to a new post every three years). A table at the back of the book, places each case and all the novels within the timeline of Judge Dee's life.

I have read about half the novels and this book of short stories, and I have enjoyed them all. Early on, Judge Dee employs three different men to be his lieutenants, and they do much of the legwork for him. However, Dee is also very hands-on, going to the crime scenes and sometimes even going about in disguise. In some of the short stories here, he solves the mystery on his own. van Gulik has created a good detective in Dee; he is very, very smart, fair, compassionate to victims and stern with criminals. The cases are varied and interesting, and difficult to solve. I especially like the setting of ancient China. van Gulik really seems to know the era he is writing about, and he brings it alive through the actions and dialog of the story. There is no exposition here. If we need to know the differences of Taoism to Buddhism, we find out through a conversation of Dee with a monk or other character. That really makes the stories glide along. Sometimes a choice of phrase seems a little odd or modern for the setting, and I assume that arises from the fact that van Gulik was Dutch writing about China in English. In any event, these quirks become rather fun and don't detract at all from the stories. van Gulik also made illustrations in the traditional Chinese style of the time, and they add to the stories. I am very glad I have found the Judge Dee mysteries, and Judge Dee at Work is an excellent way to meet the judge and his world. You will be glad you did.

A tour-de-force

This artist is among the greatest animal illustrators of this or any other century. Her latest work is no exception. As a fantasy/wildlife artist myself, I can't imagine a more awe-inspiring, supremely helpful and just plain mesmerizing series of books. The price may seem high, but is in fact very affordable considering the value of the investment. I plan to continue purchasing everything she produces as long as she maintains this quality, and will most likely purchase separate copies for my artistic daughter as well.
